Finally some melting!




The snow is finally beginning to melt and there are huge icicles on the eves dripping all day. The temperature will only go a few degrees below freezing tonight. The birds are busy. Red polls are still the most common bird at the feeder. They sometimes are so many that they fight over space. There are the usual chickadees as well. The down woodpecker (as in the photo) also stays in the vicinity of the feeder in case his grub search doesn't turn up enough food.
