I thought I glimpsed some juncos a couple of times today but I didn't really get time to verify my suspicions. I thought I saw the characteristic flash of white in their tails as they flew off.
My wife found a dead sparrow by the side of the house. It was puffed up like a balloon. I have seen several red polls that were in the same condition. It seems to be a fairly common happening.
THere were many red polls at the feeder and chickadees as well. I saw one house sparrow. I include a photo of a chickadee.
The crows are still around the village making a lot of noise already. The water is running in the deep ditches but the snow seems to be melting without much standing water. Most of it is going right into the ground.
